ID 241400601 © Aldonagriskeviciene | Megapixl.com

The internal structure of lichens is simple. The major part of the plant body is composed of closely interwoven hyphae of the fungus in association with the algal component. There is an upper or outer cortex, algal zone, medulla, lower cortex and rhizines. Rhizines are attaching devices made of fungal hyphae.
