Inaugurated on June 27, 1908, it was designed by the architect Alfredo Campos. In an eclectic revivalist style, with neo-Arab inspiration, it is part of the Art Nouveau trend, with hangars typical of iron architecture. It was the first major work that the municipality of Loulé saw born in the first decade of the 20th century. The lofty location associates economic power with political power, represented in the neighboring Paços do Concelho building. For its construction it was necessary to destroy sections of the wall and part of the urban fabric. It deserved 3 years of intensive recovery and renovation work, reopening its doors on February 1, 2007. That same year, it received the Turismo de Portugal 2007 award, in the Cities category.
