Interior of the church of Nossa Senhora de Pilar in Sao Joao del Rey, state of Minas Gerais, Brazil. A masterpiece of the early Baroque style, the church was completed in 1721 and its gorgeous interior is plastered with gold. The ceiling painting is all done with vegetable dyes. The area was the centre of the gold rush of the eighteenth century.
