The Evangelist Matthew preached and wrote the gospel, and voluntarily accepted torment for his faith in Christ and his preaching.
After Pentecost, Matthew preached in Palestine for 8 years. There he recorded his gospel in Hebrew. The original text has not reached us, but the Greek translation from it entered the Canon of the New Testament as its first book — the gospel of Matthew.
