April 2, 2023: Cumberland, Maryland in Allegany County, MD. Historic Emmanuel Parish of Episcopal Church. Built on top of Fort Cumberland, which was an important fort during the French and Indian War. George Washington was a then a colonel staying at the fort overseeing the Virginia Regiment and the start of his military career. General Edward Braddock used this as a launching point for his assault of Fort Duquesne (later called Pittsburgh). The church was built on the fort's foundation around 1850 and the tunnels underneath were used to hide fleeing and escaped slaves as part of the Underground Railroad. Near Masonic Temple.
