A package of complementary schemes is being completed to ease congestion on the A633 by providing a new 800 metre link road and footway between Aldwarke Lane and Parkgate Shopping Retail Park and a new 268-space park & ride facility with EV car charging for the Parkgate Tram-Train terminus.A consultation on this scheme was run in spring 2021 and planning permission granted in August 2022.Highway improvements are also proposed at the Parkgate roundabout with localised widening on the southern approach and exit.£11.52m is required from the South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority Transforming Cities Fund towards project costs of £12.86m. £7m is for the new access route and £3.4m for a new Park & Ride facility. £1.7m is needed for upgrades to Taylor's Lane roundabout nearby - a seperate part of the scheme. The schemes will improve bus reliability and journey times in the area by providing a more accessible route into Parkgate Shopping for residents in the north and east of Rotherham and reducing traffic volumes on the A633, as well as access to the Tram-Train network and a proposed new, larger capacity park & ride. The scheme is being delivered by South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority (SYMCA) with money secured from the Department for Transport’s Transforming Cities Fund.Main works commenced in February 2023 and are scheduled to end in March 2024.
