Halle Cathedral, built between 1271 and 1330, is the oldest surviving church building in the old town of Halle. The archbishops of Magdeburg resided here for a long time as the city's sovereigns. Cardinal Albrecht von Brandenburg's church, together with the New Residence built next door, was to become part of the most influential, powerful and prestigious monastery north of the Alps.
