Haizhu Square, built in 1953, is the only riverside square in Guangzhou, located at the intersection of the central axis of the old city and the riverside landscape belt. It once served as the witness of major historical events such as the bombing and reconstruction of Haizhu Bridge, and the PLA's entry into the city. There are traditional commercial blocks such as Taikang Road, Gaodi Street, Yide Road, etc. near it. In 1963 and 1982, Haizhu Square and Guangzhou Liberation Memorial were selected as the new eight sights of Yangcheng with "Zhuhai Heart".
