The grolla is probably the most famous handicraft of Valle d'Aosta Is realized at the lathe from a piece of fine wood and then decorated by hand. The term derives from grolla grail in the langue d'oil means container, cup. Originally grolla was just a friendly cup for drinking and has evolved to become the object of today, now used as ornaments and jewelry rather than a cup to drink. It is used mainly for the Valle d'Aosta coffee, coffee mixed with grappa (sometimes with the addition of génépy), sugar and spices, which is served flaming.
