The statue of the medieval Croatian bishop Gregory of Nin. The statue was created by Croatian artist Ivan Meštrovi?. The statue is 8.5 m high and can be found north of Diocletians Palace near the Golden Gate, where it was moved in 1959. It originally stood in the Peristyle of Diocletians Palace from 1929, but was moved out of the city by the Italian occupiers in 1941. Bishop Gregory opposed the Pope and the Church in 925-928 and was instrumental in the use of Croatian in masses (Latin was still used).
