The Gorges of San Martino are the entrance to one of the longest Apennine valleys, the Santo Spirito valley which from Fara San Martino rises to the roof of the Majella. The beautiful pass was built by the erosion caused by the Verde River, creating a valley that reaches up to the village.Inside the Gorges you can visit the remains of a monastery which came to light in the 1800s. The history of the monastery of San Martino a Valle is still to be written. What is known is that it dates back to the year one thousand.
