The Whitecheek Tang, also known as the Gold-rimmed Surgeonfish or Whitecheek Surgeonfish, has a black to purplish-blue body with a small white mark on the cheek between the mouth and eyes. The pectoral, anal, and dorsal fins are dark blue with blue highlights at the tip. The tail is blue with a yellow vertical bar. A yellow striping runs along the body, against the anal and dorsal fins, forming a distinctive wishbone-shaped marking. The whitecheek surgeonfish, also known as the goldenrim surgeonfish or yellow-spotted surgeonfish, is a reef-associated tang found from the central Indo-Pacific area to the eastern Pacific coast, Hawaii included. It occasionally makes its way into the aquarium trade. It grows to 21.3 cm in length.
