Native to Southern Japan and Korea, the Glossy leaf paper plant, Fatsia japonica, gets its name Fatsia from the Japanese where the word is an English approximation of their word `eight`, referring to the number of lobes on the leaf. The fruit from this tree can be eaten, but must be cooked first. Even with the cooking, many people do not find it too edible. On the other hand, the sap from the tree, people with sensitive skin doing need extra caution, as it can cause contact dermatitis.
