George P. Shultz, influential cabinet member under Republican presidents Richard Nixon and Ronald Reagan and advisor to George HW Bush, business executive, university professor and administrator, and statesman, died at the age of 100 at his Stanford, California home on February 6, 2021. Under Nixon, he served as Secretary of Labor and Treasury and was the first Director of the Office of Management and Budget. He was perhaps best known as Reagan`s Secretary of State from 1982-89, before serving as an informal advisor to George HW Bush. Among the challenging tasks he was assigned was trying to keep a lid on Middle East tensions, particularly those between Israel and the Palestinians. Here he is seen holding a press conference at the Jerusalem Hilton Hotel in Israel in 1987.
