Rhino is an African and Asian genus of the family Rhinocerotidae. They are herbivorous mammals that are easily recognized by their characteristic horn, which is made of keratin, the same material found in human hair and nails. Rhinos are some of the largest land animals in the world, weighing up to 6,000 kilograms (13,000 pounds). They are mostly found in tropical and subtropical habitats, but they can also live in deserts and grassy wetlands. Rhinos are threatened by habitat destruction, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict. There are five living species of rhinos, two of which are classified as critically endangered. Conservation efforts are underway to help protect rhinos from extinction.
