The Church of Santo António, built on the site where his parents lived and where he was born, is supposed to have existed, as a simple chapel, since the 15th century. D. João II ordered the construction, in the same place, of a more sumptuous temple that would only be ready in the reign of D. Manuel but that would end up being partially destroyed in the earthquake of 1755. In 1767, its reconstruction was ordered, which took 20 years, only being reopened for worship in 1787. The crypt remains from the original construction, under the dal, according to tradition, are the remains of the parents' house.
