The purpose of the bell tower was to notify in case of fire or a surprise attack. The first tower was built in 1671. It burned down later and was rebuilt soon after. The second was destroyed in the great fire in 1826. The tower that stands today is the third tower. It was built in 1833. Image is shot at Fredriksten fortress in Halden, Norway sometime in February 2014.
