Every year in France, classes are canceled in small towns. These class closures and the elimination of school teaching positions are carried out by the Ministry of National Education due to demographic variations. However, school consolidations often result in an increase in the number of students in classrooms. Differences in level and age gaps raise concerns about the quality of teaching. On the other hand, school transport is not always practical either for young schoolchildren or for parents. There are numerous protests every year and signs flourish around the schools concerned. In 2024, the north of Meurthe et Moselle will be affected again, with for example closures in Mont-Bonvillers, Longuyon, Moutiers, and new actions by parents of students are carried out in Mercy-le-Haut, Boudrezy, and in several small villages in the countryside.
