July 18, 2010 - British marching band in Founder's Day, Ogdensburg, Upstate New York, USA The Fort La Presentation Association hosted New York State’s final 250th anniversary commemoration of the French and Indian War. As a Signature Event, Founder’s Day Weekend drew re-enactors from across North America and from Europe to honor the participants in the last significant clash of French, British and Amerindian forces. The defeat of French forces at the Battle of the Thousand Islands and the siege of Fort Levis in August 1760 opened the upper St. Lawrence River to Montreal. In September 1760, Montreal capitulated, and the French and Indian War came to an end. The event at historic Lighthouse Point in downtown Ogdensburg is on the banks of the St. Lawrence River adjacent to the original Fort site.
