Netherlands, province Zeeland, village Ellewoutsdijk, municipality Borsele: Fort Ellewoutsdijk is a defense work from 1839, since the Treaty of London the Netherlands had to guarantee the access to the port of Antwerp on the Western Scheldt. This coastal, sea, fort is a landmark, cultural heritage site, national monument and tourist attraction. The fortress is now partially surrounded by a moat and is the property of the Dutch Association of Nature monuments, who bought the historic building because of its special ecological value. On the sea sheep are grazing.
