The Waag, located at the Waagplein in Leeuwarden in the north of Holland, in the province of Friesland, has been built in 1590. A market trader had to weigh his goods in a weigh house or weighing house, especially common in the Netherlands. In Leeuwarden dairy products were usually weighed, especially butter. De Waag has been in use until 1880.
