Tiger astronotus (Astronotus ocellatus) is a large ray-finned fish from the Cichlid family. Also known as: Oscar cichlid, peacock eye, water buffalo.Now in the USA, astronotuses are the object of sport fishing, and special farms are being created to grow them. Astronotus is a very popular fish in Thailand, where it is raised in homes, workplaces and even in temples. The body shape of the fish is oval, laterally compressed, the fins are large, somewhat elongated. The head and eyes are large, the fish have a large convex forehead. The coloring is uneven - the general background ranges from grayish-brown to black, over which yellow spots and streaks are scattered, often with a black edge to each spot.
