Voles (Arvicolinae or sometimes Microtinae) are a subfamily of the Cricetidae (hamsters, voles, and mice and rats of the New World) found in the northern hemisphere. The animals have a short, hairy tail and short legs. The hind feet have five toes and the front feet have four or five toes. The fifth toe on the hind feet can sometimes be underdeveloped. The muzzle is blunt.
