Pictured is an equestrian bronze sculpture of General George B. McClellan , by Henry Jackson Ellicott. It was installed in 1894. George Brinton McClellan was an American soldier, civil engineer, railroad executive, and politician. He served a brief period in 1861-1862 as the general-in-chief of the United States Army / Union Army. He failed to maintain the trust of President Abraham Lincoln, and was removed from command. Most modern authorities have assessed McClellan as a poor battlefield general
