Pictured is the entrance to the Freedman`s Cemetery Memorial in Dallas, Texas. The memorial was built in the late 1990 to commemorate one of the largest Freedman Cemeteries in the country, originally founded in 1861 with an estimated 5,000 burials in unmarked graves. It was designated a Dallas Landmark in 1992. The artist and sculptor who won a national contest to create the memorial is David Newton. Three of his sculptures are prominent. On the left `The Sentinel`, on the right `The Prophetess`, and inside at the end of the sidewalk, `The Dream`.
