Elvis Presley died aged 42 on 16 August 1977 at his home Graceland in Memphis. He was originally buried at Forest Hill Cemetery in Memphis, next to his mother. However, after an attempt to steal the body on August 28, Elvis and his mother's remains were reburied at Graceland in the Meditation Garden in October 1977. Every August, thousands commemorate Elvis Presley death by making the pilgrimage to Memphis to pay their respects at his graveside.
