Egretta garzetta has a body length of 52-68 centimeters and is a medium-sized wading bird. Its entire body feathers resemble those of large and medium-sized egrets, with a slender body and a white body. Xia Yu has two slender decorative feathers on the pillow, with a coir raincoat feather on the front neck and back. Winter decorations and coir feathers fall off. The naked skin is pink in summer and chartreuse in winter. During the reproductive period, there are two long feathers in the occipital region, such as double braids. The chest is also covered with spear shaped long feathers, but not as long as the occipital crown feathers. The tips of the coir raincoat feathers on the back are slightly curled upwards.
