Massachusetts Democratic Senator Edward M. Kennedy at a session of the Jeane Kirkpatrick Forum for Public Leadership and Public Policy at Tel Aviv University in Ramat Aviv, Israel on December 21, 1987. Kennedy had a nearly 40 years in the U.S. Senate and fought for liberal causes, especially health care. He was known as the `Lion of the Senate.` He died on August 25, 2009 at the age of 77 from a malignant brain tumor, in Hyannis Port, Massachusetts.
