Dr. Henry Heimlich demonstrates his life-saving technique (the Heimlich maneuver) against choking with a volunteer at a session of the annual meeting of the Illinois Department on Aging in Peoria, Illinois on July 15, 1979. On May 23, 2016, Dr. Heimlich, 96, claims he had never used the technique to himself to save a life. That changed at a Cincinnati, Ohio nursing home when he saved the life of a choking resident.
