This photo captures Newark of yesterday and today. The still dazzling marquee of the Paramount Theater, originally a vaudeville venue turned fixture of Newark`s downtown entertainment scene, sparkles in the sunshine though disrepair can`t be ignored. Like the marquee, an old billboard has also been ravaged by time, rusting mercilessly, though the words can still be read. Newark`s downtown is a jumble of the glory of the past and the realities of the present. Two Newark black and white police vehicles are a stark reminder this city is very much caught between these two worlds. This photo was taken on Market Street between Beaver Street and Broad Street on September 10, 2016.
