Domesticated geese are descendants of wild geese – in Europe and North American they would mostly likely have Greylag Goose (Anser anser) ancestry, whereas the Chinese and African populations were most likely derived from the Swan Goose (Anser cygnoides) – these can easily be recognized by their prominent bill knobs.
