Monks blessing old dolls (ningyo) which are to be burned at Hongakuji Buddhist temple in Kamakura, Japan. This is a modern tradition going back to 1983 initiated by doll lovers who felt that their dolls should be treated like family members holding memorial services for them. The ashes of the dolls are dedicated to the doll mound.
