It is the oldest Orthodox church in Romania. In the IV century there stood an Early Christian church which decayed. The Densus Memorial Church was built in its place in Roman style, with stones from Sarmisegetusa -Colonia Ulpia Traiana Augusta Dacica- the capital of the Roman Dacia; and is dedicated to Sf. Nicholas.
