Saint Nicolae's Orthodox Church from the village of Densus, Hunedoara County is one of the oldest churches still standing in Romania. Built in the 13th century on the site of a 2nd century Roman Temple, it has a stone tower above the naos and the materials used for its construction are stones from the ruins of Ulpia Traiana Sarmisegetusa, a close-by roman colony. Inside the church are 15th century mural paintings. Detail of the tower's architecture.
