View to the west from the heights of Dead Horse Point outside of Moab, UT. The arid dessert climate appears to bake the ground, removing moisture from the soil and preventing vegetation. Towering rock formations and land striations show carving from prior ancient rivers and lakes as well as more recent wind and Colorado River carving activity. The sandstone cliffs, deep arid basins, and distant mountains depict a panorama of deceptive distance. The white fields in the upper left quadrant of the photo are part of ongoing potash manufacturing within the dry basin.
