Dardanelles Strait "Dardanelia", tur. Çanakkale Bo?az? – "Çanakkale Strait" in ancient times also called Hellespont') is a very narrow sea passage in northwestern Turkey, which connects the Aegean Sea with the Sea of Marmara. The strait is 61 km long and only 1.2 to 6 km wide, with an average depth of 55 m (maximum depth is 81 m). Water flows in both directions along this sea passage: from the Sea of Marmara towards the Aegean Sea via the surface current, and in the opposite direction via the underwater, deep current.Ships move through the strait in both directions towards the Black Sea and Marmara Sea. Until recently, traffic between the two shores of the Moreuz Europe and Asia was carried out exclusively by ferry, but with the construction of the suspension bridge, traffic is mainly carried out by bridge.
