Crantock Beach and sand dunes North Cornwall, Crantock beach forms a vast expanse of beautiful golden sand between Pentire and West Pentire headlands. At the southern end of the beach are high cliffs providing some shelter from the wind. To the north is the mouth of the River Gannel, very much diminished from it's heyday when it was a navigable port. Much of the beach is backed by high sand dunes which go back a considerable distance forming an area known as Rushy Green. Criss-crossed with paths these grassy dunes are also an important wildlife habitat.
