Sunday, March 16, 2013 Photo of Coopers hawk holding an American short-tailed shrew in our back yard. It flew to the crab apple tree outside our kitchen window where it landed with the freshly killed shrew in talons and proceeded to have lunch. Shrews are amazingly soft! albeit somewhat toxic. I was actually surprised to watch this hawk pluck off chunks of fur like they will de-feather a bird before eating.
