Pictured is the Contrari-Boncompagni Palace in the Fortress of Vignola near Modena, Italy. The soberly harmonious renaissance building was constructed between 1560 and 1568 as the home of the Count of Vignola, Ercole Contrari, known as the Elder. It was designed by the great Italian architect Jacopo Barozzi. The fief was ceded to Jacopo Boncompagni in 1577 after the Contrari Family died out. After several additional changes in ownership over the years, it was sold to the current owner, the Foundation of Vignola.
