The municipality of Colle di Tora, until 1864 called Collepiccolo, is a small town perched on a peninsula that juts out into the waters of Lake Turano, in the heart of the Valley (about 400 inhabitants) at 600 m. above sea level. It stood on a hilly offshoot and, following the construction of the dam and the subsequent birth of the artificial basin: "Lake Turano", has greatly transformed its geographical structure. The country, following the flooding, has extended to the south, assuming a characteristic long and narrow peninsular conformation on the waters of Lake Turano providing a breathtaking view to the many who come across this delightful glimpse of central Italy: "Little Switzerland" where the lake landscape in absolute harmony with the mountains that surround it all around as a natural barrier (including those of the Reserve of Monte Navegna and Cervia), makes it look like those small villages, wedged, like amber spikes, between the lapis lazuli waters
