A close-up of The Deposition by master artist Michelangelo is also known as the Florentine Pieta or Bandini Pieta. It was the artist’s final sculpture and was almost destroyed by the master in a fit of frustration. The artwork was saved by Francesco Bandini and partially restored by an apprentice sculptor. The cloaked figure is Nicodemus and thought to be a self-portrait of Michelangelo. The sculpture is exhibited in the Museo dell’Opera del Duomo Duomo Museum in Florence.
