Cistus is a very attractive flowering plant from the Mediterranean that is now commonly found in gardens with a similar type climate. Its Greek name, Ladania, translate as `plant containing oil`, because of the oily surface of its leaves. The ancient Greeks used the oils to heal wounds and as a beauty supplement. The ancient Egyptians used the oil to embalm their mummies. Today, we use it to lower the bad cholesterol.
