The figure of Christ the King was conceived and built under an initiative of the Archpresbytery of Figueira de Castelo Rodrigo with the intent of the archpresbytery to honour the royalty of Our Lord, the statue becoming a public monument, a witness to the vibrant and obedient faith of the people of Figueira to Christ the King. Sculpted from white granite and six metres high, the statue was inaugurated on the day of the Pilgrimage to the sanctuary of Marofa, during the festival that takes place there every 13 August.
