The 12th century St Peter's Church bombed shell, and where pre-WWII, the medieval town centre was. The church is maintained as a monument to the civilian war dead of Bristol. The rubble of the once huge Norman Castle is nearby, but that was destroyed in 1665 on the order of Oliver Cromwell.
