Carcassonne - a French commune, located in the department of Aude in the region of Languedoc - Roussillon. Carcassonne is divided into old (upper) and new (lower) town. The old fortified city stands on a rocky hill and is surrounded by two walls V and XIII century. In 1997, the medieval architectural complex was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
