Fortress of Carcassonne - a medieval architectural complex, located in the French town of Carcassonne in the department of Aude. The history of this fortified medieval town dates back to the Gallo-Roman period of French history. The town is surrounded by a double row of fortified walls, the length of which is about 3 km. Above the walls tower 52 towers. The city is the counts castle Comtal and the Basilica of Saint Nazaire. Since 1997, the CitГ© is included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
