This SIPU MUIN Canadian Coast Guard Ice Breaking Hovercraft. This particular Hovercraft was deployed on the East end of the Island of Montreal by the Canadian Government to control the flow of ice accumulating at the mouth of rivers as they flow into the St-Laurence Seaway. As ice sheats accumulate there's a higher risk of raising waters flowing over the ice and flood low lying areas. Hovercrafts are used through the winter but becoming increasingly necessary in spring as the ice starts to melt.
