The cable car which links the Bastille with the city centre of Grenoble is just as well known as the fort itself. Constructed on the initiative of mayor Paul Mistral, its was inaugurated by his successor, Léon Martin in September 1934. It is one of the oldest urban cable cars in the world and runs all year round.
