The currant is one of the most widespread berry shrubs of the Russian garden. It grows practically in all territory of Russia, doesn`t afraid of the frost, requires little maintenance, and it yields a harvest of berries every summer. Currant berries have a strong and tart sweetish-sour taste. In Russia, three main types of currants are widespread: black, red and white. Black currant is grown more than any other, because, in comparison with other types, it`s the most hardy. Currant ranks first among the berries for vitamin C, so many families tend to conserve currants for the winter in jam, jelly, homemade wine, etc.
