Boerhavia diffusa is a creeping, perennial, much-branched herb with stout fusiform roots. The stems are divaricate, purplish, and thickened at the nodes. The leaves are opposite, simple, ovate-cordiform, obtuse-acute, truncate-cordate at the base, and entire along the margins. The flowers are small, about 5 mm in diameter, and are arranged in axillary or terminal panicles. The perianth is pink and the stamens are 3.
